A Basic Ship Tool Kit List

Every boat should have a basic mechanic's tool kit. We recommend that the kit should include the following items:

TOOLS
Socket set - 3/8 drive (3/8" - 13/16") Wire cutters/strippers
Open and box wrenches (3/16" - 1") DC test light
Screw driver set - slotted & phillips Volt / ohm meter
Crescent wrenches - 8" and 12" Utility Knife
Pipe wrench - 1 3/4" opening Hacksaw and Blades
Vise grips - 8" Hammer
Pliers – regular and needlenose Spanner Wrench for filters oil/fuel
Spark plug wrench Drill with Bits
Assorted allen wrenches Assorted punches
SPARE PARTS
Oil Oil filters
Fuel Filters Transmission Fluid
Impellers Belts
Fuses, assorted ratings Bulbs, every style used on board
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
Assorted Hose Clamps Assorted screws, nuts & bolts
Electrical tape Assorted electrical connectors
Silicon or caulk Tie wraps
Wd-40 or general purpose lubricant Two part epoxy
Flashlight and spare batteries Assorted wooden bungs

While these are the just the fundamentals of a kit, don’t forget to add anything that is specific to your type of boat. IE if you have a sailboat add whipping twine, needles and sail tape. The key is to know your boat and anticipate what you might need in case of an emergency or breakdown.
